LEED and Green Building Principles

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system to provide a national standard for green building design.

LEED evaluates buildings in five areas: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy & atmosphere, materials & resources, and indoor environmental quality. Within these categories, points or credits are available, and the number of points a project or building earns determines the level of certification it will be awarded: Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.
